Take photos on and under the water without fear of damaging an expensive camera.

Anyone that enjoys activities that involve being around the water will definitely appreciate the new Canon PowerShot D10. Introduced earlier this year, the PowerShot D10 is waterproof to a depth of 10 meters or 33 ft; shockproof from a height of 1.22 meters or 4 ft; and freezeproof to -10° C or -14° F. This is a camera that's built for adventure.

What Can the PowerShot D10 Do?

At first glance the PowerShot D10 appears slightly bulkier than more streamlined digital cameras such as the Olympus Stylus, Pentax, or Fujifilm FinePix, but this is part of what allows this camera to work so well. Canon has built the protection directly into a high quality camera giving it versatility and durability all in an affordable package.

The PowerShot D10 has point and shoot ease with Smart AUTO, and also incorporates features such as face, scene, and motion detection technology, 3x optical and 4x digital zoom, rechargeable NB-6L Li-Ion battery with battery charger, and the Digic 4 image processor to make it well worth the $300 suggested retail price.

PowerShot D10 Features:

  • Pixels: 12.1 Megapixel
  • LCD Display: 2.5 in.
  • File Type: Exif 2.2 (JPEG); MOV (Image: H.264; Audio: Linear PCM (Monaural))
  • Storage: SD/SDHC, MMC/MMC Plus/HC MMC Plus
  • Focal Length: 6.2-18.6mm f/2.8-4.9 (35mm film equivalent: 35-105mm)

  • Power: Rechargeable Lithium-ion Battery NB-6L
  • Shutter Speed: 15-1/1500 sec.; Long Shutter operates with noise reduction when manually set at 1.3-15 sec.
  • Continuous Shooting
  • Self-timer
  • 4 attachment points for wrist and shoulder strap connection
  • Interchangeable Faceplates (optional)

Image quality on the PowerShot D10 is exceptional, and the Smart AUTO feature allows the camera to automatically select the proper settings. Advanced users will enjoy the additional features available for capturing other unique shots. Learning to use the camera is relatively simple and the buttons are well placed.

Powering the PowerShot D10

The rechargeable battery is a definite plus for this camera, allowing it to handle 220 shots or six hours of playback time with the LCD display on. Time required to recharge the battery is approximately 1:55 minutes and the battery life expectancy is around 300 recharge cycles. Best of all, this battery is recyclable.

While some consumers might initially be put off by a camera that may not fit in every jean pocket, the Canon PowerShot D10 is a great worry-free, take-anywhere camera that's perfect for everything from backyard pool parties to snorkeling trips. The simple convenience of not having to constantly worry about protecting it from the elements will make this camera popular with outdoor enthusiasts.
