Creative Pose Options for Your Christmas or Holiday Photo Cards

Before you take this year's Christmas card photo, consider some of these family pictures ideas for a truly personalized Christmas card.

Everyone is always striving to have the perfect family photo to put in their Christmas cards and newsletter. Try any of these family photo ideas to have an original snapshot for your holiday card this year.

Outdoor Holiday Photos

A great family photo pose is to build a snowman for each member of the family, but don’t put heads on them. Instead pose with each of your heads resting on the body of the snowmen.
Get a photograph of Dad dragging an evergreen tree through a snowy yard followed by excited children.
If there are several children, consider an action shot of all of them on a wooden sled coming down a snowy hill, making sure to get the expression of thrill on their faces.
Get up on a ladder and take an overhead photo of the kids lying in the snow making snow angels.

Close-up Holiday Photos

On a snowy day, go outside and take a picture of the kids looking out a frosty window in amazement at the snow falling down.
Take a close-up up photo of the kids putting the star on top of the Christmas tree. They should be looking at the star, not the camera. The idea is to capture the excitement in their faces.
This is a tricky shot, but hang a very large, clear ornament on the Christmas tree and have the children look at it. The shot should be one of the ornament itself, capturing the child's reflection in it. This would also work well for multi photo Christmas cards.
Outside on a winter’s night, take a close-up picture of the kids holding a candle and looking at the flame. Get just their faces and the candle. The glow of candlelight will add a nice effect to their faces.

Cute Holiday Photos

A picture of a young child cautiously trying to bite into a gingerbread man ornament hanging on the Christmas tree, when they thought no one was looking.
Have one child holding mistletoe over the other child’s head and kissing them on the cheek.
Have the kids lying on the ground underneath the Christmas tree on their stomachs, as if they are peeking out from under it, their heads resting on their hands. Include a witty caption such as, “The Best Gift of All”.
Do a modern-day version of the Norman Rockwell Christmas picture that shows two children in front of the fireplace, one looking up, the other looking straight at the camera asking, “Is He Coming?”.
Take a photograph of the whole family looking through the center of a very large Christmas wreath.
