The Up-and-Coming Talent Behind Clearband Photography

Mar 13, 2008 Lauren John

Janie Burden she talks about what she enjoys about photography, her inspirations and own personal achievements since turning professional.

Janie Burden is a rising talent in the world of photography. Since having a photo appear on a bands C.D sleeve, Janie's work has gone from strength to strength. She has photographed many singers, models and events and also found a new love for landscape photography. With photographs appearing on promotional material, in the press and receiving good feedback in competitions, she is sure to have a bright future. Here's what she has to say about her favourite topic.

Suite101: What do you enjoy most about photography?

The travelling, meeting new people, meeting old friends, I love every single bit about it.. Even the long days!! No day is ever the same and it's never boring.. Even taking photos of a building in the pouring rain is fun.

Suite101: Is there anyone you admire in the photography field and why?

I love Hamish Brown's work!! Every photo he takes is stunning and really captures the moment. I try and get the same feel across in the photos I take, though I am no-where near as good as him!

Suite101: What places/people etc would you really like to photograph if you had the chance?

I'd love to do a shoot with Robbie Williams. That would be a real dream come true! And I would love the chance to do some photos at the Glastonbury Festival, it's local to me and is a big part of everyone’s lives, so it would mean a lot to me.

Suite101: In all the work you've done as a photographer, what are you most proud of?

I'm most proud of having one of the photos I've taken used as a CD - seeing that in HMV was like, wow. It meant a lot because, it was the first time I really thought about doing my photography as a living, and, just going out there, showing the world - I can do this! also working with Chenai Zinyuku of X-Factor fame - that was an amazing opportunity!!

Suite101: What is the most valuable thing you've learned or picked up?

The most valuable thing I've learnt/picked up would be, to just be yourself. This world is a crazy one and this business is even crazier. There are a lot of people out there who want to knock you back and claim to be better than you - and, they might be better than you, but, because they are knocking you, it makes you greater if you rise above it all.

Suite101: What would you like to achieve in the future?

In the future, I'd like to achieve success, but on a large scale. I want Clear Band Photography to be a household name and for people to look up to my work like I look up to other peoples.
